United Utilities’ Dirty Secret

9 Dec 2022

The Lib Dems have been kicking up a stink about water companies dumping sewage into our rivers and waterways.

United Utilities discharged sewage for 8,490 hours or 353 days into the River Lune, Sedbergh in 2020 - this was the worst in the UK. They have been able to continue in 2021, at Hornby they discharged 1,599 hours into the River Wenning which flowed into the Lune.

Last year it was revealed that United Utilities discharged sewage for 8,490 hours or 353 days into the River Lune, Sedbergh in 2020 - this was the worst in the UK. They have been able to continue in 2021 and 2022, where it’s come out that 5,000 hours of sewage has been dumped into Morecambe Bay.

Lib Dem Councillor Joyce Pritichard said, “The whole thing stinks to high hell, the Conservatives have let United Utilities and other water companies rake in profits and continue to dump in our waterways. It’s undermining the hard work that local people have put in to tidy up our town and puts off tourists from thinking of Morecambe as a resort they want to visit. Action needs to be taken!”

The Conservatives have let United Utilities and other water companies rake in profits and continue to dump in our waterways.
